Twitter: Another Social Networking Site

Last week my teacher informed me that I was to sign up for a Twitter account. Now I’ve heard of Twitter but I never got into it. Unlike MySpace and Facebook Twitter just wasn’t that interesting to me. After I made my account my assignment was then to post 20 “tweets” and follow the other students in my class along with other people. My first tweet was just saying that I was a student in my teacher’s class. I still thought it was boring after that and I soon uploaded a picture to my profile.
Over the course of the week, I slowly started getting into Twitter. I signed up to update my status from my phone via text message. It was starting to get more interesting as well. The only part I do not like about Twitter was that fact that you couldn’t write more than 140 characters at a time. I would slowly start to write a paragraph and then the cursor wouldnt go over anymore. So I learned to keep my statuses short and sweet. I also dont like the word they use, “follow”; It almost sounds like someone is stalking you.
The one thing I liked about Twitter is that you can find out about things happening in the world quicker than from Facebook or MySpace. One person that you may be following will update their status and then not even 5 minutes later everyone that you are following or that is following you will have the same status. With Facebook, it took time for everyone to find out the same information. I also like that Twitter is more private. Just because someone follows you doesn’t mean you have follow them back. You can also put a lock on your profile. Facebook allows everyone to read and see everything about you. Nothing is private on there unless you write a message.
I think I am going to keep my Twitter account even after my class is over with. I am going to convince my mom to get one. She and I both like to stay updated on things in the news and Twitter is a faster way to do that if you are nowhere near a television. Instead of keep on trucking.. I will keep on tweeting!
