Social Media Policy…Rules to Online Networking
Posted by: eriickadee on: November 28, 2009
While many people have a Facebook, MySpace, or Twitter, they never really think twice about things they post. Sometimes you could be tagged in a picture doing something ridiculous, or you could put out info that stretches the truth. While at the time it may seem like nothing important, in most cases it comes back to haunt you. By following these simple rules you could avoid disaster.
1. Be responsible for what you write. You have the right to freedom of speech and you should own up to whatever you post.
2. Be 100% Real. If you care to post personal information about yourself make sure its the truth. Dont fabricate stories. Sometimes your potential future employer might read what you put and you may get denied a job because you story doesnt check out.
3. Be Aware of your Audience. Take the time to think about who may read whatever is posted on your page. That includes pictures and what other people post. If you know your boss or parents could possibly see something that you dont want them to then you shouldnt post it. In ther words, if you have to question yourself about it chances are it shouldnt be posted.
4. Use Good Judgement. Since your friends can see everything you post or do, then you should be polite in your comments on other peoples pages. You should refrain from using demeaning or negative slurs. You dont want to come across as a racist or narrow-minded person.
By following these simple rules your online networking should go smoothly. Social networking is not going away any time soon. You want to have a good experience as well as everyone thats on the social websites, and this is possibly the best way to achieve that.
